Web design & SEO case study

Valley Decks

A deck builder website for Boise and the Treasure Valley, built around the questions homeowners ask before they call: what it costs, whether it needs a permit, and what the local climate demands.

The brief

A deck builder site that knows each city's permit rules.

Most deck content online repeats national rules. In the Treasure Valley those rules are often wrong: Boise and Nampa require a permit once a deck is more than 12 inches above grade, not the 30 inches most articles quote, Meridian requires one for any attached deck, and footings go 24 inches deep for frost. A homeowner planning a five-figure deck needs those answers for their own city.

The site gives each question its own page. Eight service pages cover the trade, 16 service-by-city pages cover composite decks, replacement, repair and covered decks in Boise, Meridian, Eagle and Nampa, and city, neighborhood and county pages explain local permit routing. Fourteen cost guides and a deck cost calculator answer the price question, and every path ends at a two-step estimate request.

The calculator prices a deck by size, material and height without asking for contact details, then hands off to the estimate form.

SEO strategy & experience

Local numbers, sourced, on every page.

Write each city from what is different there

Every city and service-by-city page is built from that place's own facts: its permit trigger and building department, frost depth and snow load, floodplain and wildfire overlays, and HOA review. Garden City pages lead with the floodplain, which covers about 74 percent of its properties, and Foothills pages lead with wildfire construction. A similarity check compares every pair of city pages and blocks any that read like a city-name swap.

Source every number

Code, permit and climate figures come from city, county and state sources and NOAA climate normals, each listed on the page. Prices come from one cost model built on published market ranges, labeled as market data rather than a quote, so the calculator and every cost guide show the same figures. Each page was reviewed against its sources by a second editor before it was published.

Price the deck before the call

The calculator walks through size, material, height and extras and shows a running range without asking for contact details. Cost guides cover repairs, resurfacing, railings and common sizes like 12 by 16 and 16 by 20 feet. A two-step estimate form, with optional yard photos, turns a researched visitor into a site measure request.

The strategy in practice

Explore the search entry points.

  • Composite deck builder in Boise, ID

Board color for Boise's July heat, fire-rated boards for Foothills lots, and the city's 12-inch permit rule.

  • Deck cost in Meridian, ID

Prices by size and material, plus the Meridian factors that move them: the attached-deck permit rule, HOA specs and hardpan.

  • Deck builder in Garden City, ID

A city where most properties sit in the 100-year floodplain, so floodplain review comes before the deck design.

  • Deck cost calculator

Size, material, height and extras to a Treasure Valley price range, with no contact details required.
