TL;DR
LSA charges per valid lead: answered calls, missed calls over 20 seconds during business hours, messages, voicemails and bookings. Painting and cleaning leads ran about $33, plumbing $57 to $66, roofing $107. Google recommends budgeting for 10 leads a week, which is about $2,300 a month at the $53 average. Management, if you hire it, is a separate bill from the ad spend.

How Much Do Google Local Services Ads Cost?
There's no fixed price. Google charges you for each valid lead, and an auction sets what that lead costs. In 2026 samples, the average was $53 per lead, with most trades between $33 and $107. Your total cost is the number of leads you get times their price, capped by the budget you set.
Google says lead prices "may vary depending on your location, the job type, the type of lead, or your bidding mode" (How leads work). So a national average is only a starting point. SearchLight puts it plainly: a $53 national average "can mask $30 CPLs in smaller markets and $90+ CPLs in competitive metros." Plan a first month from the trade table below, then manage from the charged leads in your own account.
How Does Google Charge for Local Services Ads?
Google charges per valid lead, not per click. A lead is a real contact from a customer: a call you answer or return, a message, a voicemail or a booking request. People can view your listing, open your profile and read your reviews without costing you anything. Spam and duplicate contacts are filtered out before you're charged.
| You're charged when | You're not charged when |
|---|---|
| You answer a call, or call the customer back and speak with them | Google flags the contact as spam, a duplicate or low quality |
| You miss a call during business hours and the caller stays on the line more than 20 seconds | The caller hangs up without pressing a key on your phone menu |
| A customer sends a text message or email, or leaves a voicemail | The same customer follows up within 15 days from the same phone number or email |
| A customer sends a booking request (US and Canada) | Someone clicks or views your listing without contacting you |

The missed-call rule is the one that costs contractors most. If nobody picks up during your listed hours and the caller waits past 20 seconds, you pay for that lead anyway. Google's full walkthrough of the listing, the auction and the badge is in our Google Local Services Ads guide.
What Does an LSA Lead Cost by Trade in 2026?
In 2026 data, LSA leads cost about $33 for painting and cleaning, $39 to $43 for electrical, $51 for HVAC, $57 to $66 for plumbing and $107 for roofing. Water damage is the outlier at $215. Most trades also got more expensive year over year: landscaping rose 64.5% and electrical 51.0%, while plumbing fell 5.6%.

Sources: SearchLight Digital LSA benchmark, February 1–28, 2026: $6.72M in LSA spend across 888 contractors and 126,650 leads, gross of credits. 99 Calls, LSA cost per lead by industry, April through June 2026 compared with the same months of 2025. Neither is Google data: SearchLight sells revenue-tracking software and 99 Calls manages LSA accounts. A dash means that source doesn't report the trade.
Two numbers matter more than the lead price. SearchLight's sample booked 43.9% of LSA leads, so a $53 lead works out to about $121 per booked job, and it puts the average cost per paying customer at $233. How Do LSA Budgets and Bidding Work?
On a classic LSA account you set an average weekly budget, and Google turns it into a monthly maximum: the weekly figure times the average number of weeks in a month. You can spend more than the weekly figure in a busy week, but never more than the monthly max. Once you hit it, your ad stops showing until the next month.
You also pick a bidding mode (How bidding works):
- Maximize leads. Google sets the bid to get the most leads for your budget. It's Google's recommended mode, with a budget for at least 10 leads a week.
- Target cost per lead. Automated bidding around a target you set or accept from Google, close to the average you'll pay.
- Max per lead. Manual bidding: the most you'd pay for any one lead.
Google says results take about two weeks to settle while the model learns your business, so don't judge a new budget on its first few days.
What Changes When LSA Moves Into Google Ads?
Google is moving LSA into Google Ads as pay-per-lead Performance Max campaigns. The first select US home-service advertisers began moving in August 2026, broader groups follow in late 2026, and the rest in 2027 (Google Ads Help). You still pay only for valid leads, not clicks.
Two things change. Your average weekly budget is divided by 7 to set a daily budget, and monthly spend is capped at that daily budget times 30.4. And manual bidding, such as a maximum cost per lead, isn't supported in Google Ads, so the Max per lead mode goes away when your account moves.
How Much Should You Budget for Local Services Ads?
Start with enough for about 10 leads a week, the level Google recommends for Maximize leads. At the $53 average, that's about $530 a week, or roughly $2,300 a month. Then cap it at the number of leads your team can actually answer and schedule. Here's the same math for four lead prices from the table above.
| Lead price used | Cost per lead | Weekly budget (10 leads) | Monthly max (about) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Electrical (99 Calls) | $43.15 | $432 | $1,900 |
| All home services (SearchLight) | $53.00 | $530 | $2,300 |
| Plumbing (99 Calls) | $66.17 | $662 | $2,900 |
| Roofing (99 Calls) | $106.87 | $1,069 | $4,600 |
Our arithmetic: cost per lead × 10 leads, then × 30.4 ÷ 7 weeks for the monthly max, rounded to the nearest $100. Lead prices from the sources above. Your market and profile will move the real number.
Before you fund it, check that the job pays for the lead. Divide the lead price by your close rate to get cost per booked job, and compare that with the gross profit on a typical job, not the invoice total. If the margin is thin, our guide covers when Local Services Ads aren't worth it.
What Does Local Services Ads Management Cost?
Management is a second bill, separate from the ad spend you pay Google. At Verlua there's no published ads-management fee. It's scoped after a discovery call, once we've seen your accounts, job types and service area, or bundled into your monthly engagement if we already run your local SEO. No minimum contract.
Our ongoing local SEO rate is $1,500/mo, and the reason to bundle is that LSA and SEO share the same Google Business Profile, reviews and service area. What the management fee pays for is the weekly work most owners don't get to:
- Setup and Google Verified paperwork: job types, service area, licenses, insurance and background checks that match your profile.
- Lead disputes: reviewing calls and messages every week and flagging spam, wrong-area and wrong-service leads through each lead's feedback survey.
- Budget and bidding: adjusting the weekly budget and bid mode as cost per booked job moves, and handling the move into Google Ads.
- Review requests and lead tracking: a steady review routine, and every lead marked booked or not so the monthly report shows cost per booked job.

How Can You Lower Your LSA Cost Per Lead?
You lower LSA costs by paying for fewer bad leads and winning more auctions at the same bid. Answer the phone during listed hours, flag bad leads every week, keep job types and service area tight, and keep reviews coming. Google's auction weighs your responsiveness and profile quality, and it says higher quality profiles "may also pay lower costs per lead" (About ad rankings).
- Answer during listed hours. A missed call where the caller waits past 20 seconds is still a charged lead, and Google says missed calls may hurt your responsiveness. Set hours you can actually staff.
- Flag bad leads weekly. Use each lead's feedback survey for spam, wrong-area and wrong-service contacts, and watch the credit rate.
- Trim job types and service area. Turn off work you don't want and ZIP codes you won't drive to.
- Keep reviews coming. Google says star ratings and review count affect how you rank in LSA, and those reviews are managed through your Google Business Profile (Reviews and ratings).

Frequently Asked Questions About LSA Cost
How much do Google Local Services Ads cost per lead?
Google publishes no price list, because an auction sets each lead price. In 2026 data, SearchLight Digital found a $53 average across 888 home-service contractors in February, and 99 Calls measured about $33 to $107 for most trades from April to June. Water damage was the outlier at $215.31 per lead.
Do you pay per click with Local Services Ads?
No. Local Services Ads charge per valid lead: a call you answer or return, a missed call during business hours where the caller stays on the line more than 20 seconds, a message, a voicemail or a booking request. Clicks on your listing cost nothing, and follow-ups from the same customer within 15 days aren't charged again.
How much should I budget for Local Services Ads?
Budget for about 10 leads a week, the minimum Google recommends for its Maximize leads bidding. At SearchLight's $53 average lead, that's about $530 a week, or roughly $2,300 a month. Plumbing at 99 Calls' $66.17 works out to about $2,900 a month, and roofing at $106.87 to about $4,600.
Do you get refunded for bad Local Services Ads leads?
You get credits, not refunds. Google reassesses charged leads over 30 days and automatically credits the ones it judges low quality, duplicate or invalid. You can also flag a bad lead in its feedback survey. Credits aren't available for health care, tax specialists or advertisers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
How much does Local Services Ads management cost?
It's a separate bill from your ad spend. At Verlua there's no published ads-management fee: it's scoped after a discovery call, or bundled into your monthly engagement if we already run your local SEO (ongoing local SEO is $1,500/mo). You pay Google directly for leads. No minimum contract.
Does LSA cost change when Google moves it into Google Ads?
You still pay only for valid leads, not clicks. Your average weekly budget is divided by 7 to set a daily budget, and monthly spend is capped at that daily budget times 30.4. Manual bidding, such as a maximum cost per lead, isn't supported in Google Ads. The first accounts began moving in August 2026.
