Free AI search visibility check

See whether ChatGPT and Google's AI can find and cite your business. Enter your website and in seconds you get a score out of 100 and a plain-English list of what is in the way.

What is an AI visibility check?

An AI visibility check shows whether ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity can find, read and cite your business website. It looks for the technical blockers that keep a site out of AI answers and tells you which ones to fix first.

AI answers are built from pages the engine could fetch and parse. If robots.txt blocks the crawler, the text only appears after JavaScript runs, or a noindex tag hides the page, you are out of the running before content quality is even considered. This check finds those blockers in seconds.

It is a technical check, not a citation tracker. It does not ask AI tools about your business.

How is the AI visibility score calculated?

Nine checks, each with a fixed weight that adds up to 100. A pass earns the full weight, a warning earns half, and a fail earns nothing. If a check can't run (the site times out or blocks us), it is left out and the score is scaled to the points we could check. Same site, same answer: there is no AI guessing in the score.

AI visibility checks and their weights
CheckPointsWhy it matters
AI crawlers allowed in robots.txt20If robots.txt blocks a search or AI crawler, that engine cannot read your pages, so it cannot quote or cite them.
Real text in the page HTML15OpenAI's, Anthropic's and Perplexity's crawlers do not run JavaScript, so text that only appears after scripts run is invisible to them.
Business schema (Organization or LocalBusiness)15Organization or LocalBusiness markup states who you are, what you do and which profiles are yours, which helps engines connect your site to your brand.
Title and meta description10The title and description are the short summary engines read first when they decide what a page is about.
Questions answered on the page10People ask AI tools full questions, and pages that state a question and answer it directly are easier to quote.
XML sitemap reachable10A sitemap lists every page you want found, so crawlers do not have to discover them one link at a time.
No noindex or nosnippet on the homepage10A noindex tag removes the page from search, and nosnippet or max-snippet:0 stops Google from quoting it, including in AI Overviews.
llms.txt file5llms.txt is a proposed standard (llmstxt.org) that gives AI tools a plain summary of your site; support is uneven, so it carries a small weight.
HTTPS and canonical tag5A secure URL and a canonical tag tell engines which single address to credit when they cite the page.

The crawler check reads robots.txt for Googlebot, Bingbot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, PerplexityBot and Claude-SearchBot (search and answers), plus GPTBot, ClaudeBot and Google-Extended (model training). Blocking a search crawler is a fail. Blocking only training crawlers is a warning, because that is a choice some owners make on purpose.

What this check can’t tell you

  • It does not ask ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini anything, so it cannot tell you whether you are cited today.
  • It reads your homepage, robots.txt, llms.txt and sitemap. Other pages can have different problems.
  • It cannot measure your content quality, reviews, or what other sites say about you. Those decide a lot of what AI tools recommend.
  • A firewall can treat our checker differently from real crawlers. If your homepage blocks us, the report says so instead of guessing.

Get your business into AI answers

Your report shows what stands between your business and a mention in ChatGPT or Google's AI. Many fixes are small, and whoever runs your website can start with the “Fix these first” list. If you would rather hand it off, we make your business easy for AI tools to find and cite, and write the pages that answer your customers' questions. You can also run the free website security check while you are here.

Frequently asked questions

What is an AI visibility check?

An AI visibility check shows whether ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity can find, read and cite your business website. It looks for the technical blockers that keep a site out of AI answers: crawler access, text in your HTML, structured data, sitemaps and snippet rules. It does not measure whether you are cited today.

Does blocking GPTBot remove my site from ChatGPT?

Not from ChatGPT search. OpenAI uses separate robots.txt tokens: OAI-SearchBot decides whether your pages can appear in ChatGPT search, and GPTBot decides whether your content can be used to train its models. You can allow one and block the other. This check fails a site only when a search or answer crawler is blocked.

Do I need an llms.txt file?

It helps a little and costs little. llms.txt is a proposed standard: a plain Markdown file at /llms.txt that summarizes your business and links your key pages for AI tools. Support across AI products is uneven, so it is worth 5 of the 100 points here. Crawler access and readable HTML matter far more.

How to write an llms.txt file

Why does the text need to be in the HTML?

Because many AI crawlers do not run JavaScript. A Vercel and MERJ study found that OpenAI's, Anthropic's and Perplexity's crawlers fetch pages without executing scripts, so a site that builds its text in the browser can look empty to them. Server-rendered or static pages avoid the problem.

Will a perfect score get me cited in AI answers?

No. A high score means nothing technical stands in the way. Being cited also depends on whether your pages answer real questions clearly, how well known your business is, and what reviews and other sites say about you. The score is the floor, not the finish line.

Is the check safe, and do you store my results?

Yes. The check makes four read-only requests for the same files any search engine fetches: your homepage, robots.txt, llms.txt and sitemap. It does not log in or submit anything. We do not ask for your email. Results are held in memory for 10 minutes so a repeat check is fast, then dropped.
